For 10 years, A1 has been partner of WWF´s Earth Hour and is also participating on March 19, when lights are being switched off worldwide. 33 A1 Shops are sending a signal for climate protection and turn off the lights of shop windows for one night.
Guido Lenz, Head of A1 Direct Sales, is pleased about the engagement of A1 Shop employees: "On March 19, the shop windows of all A1 Shops across Austria remain dark. By participating in the Earth Hour we are sending a signal towards a conscious handling with energy. A sustainable and economic usage of resources is a huge matter for us".
During the days before Earth Hour, A1 Shop employees provide customers with information on how to save energy while using the phone, for example by extending the battery life. On top, A1 shop customers might win a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge that comes with an ultra energy-saving mode.
Vienna Arsenal Tower remains dark between 20:30 to 21:30 PM
Also, lights will be switched off at the Vienna Arsenal Tower. The radio tower with a height of 155 meter is part of the A1 technology center and is a prominent icon with its artistic green lightning during night. Between 20:30 and 21:30 the A1 Tower is going to disappear for one hour.
For A1, climate protection is not only a key word: For 10 years, A1 has been engaged with a certified environmental management. Due to targeted measures the company was able to reduce CO2-emissions by more than 63% since 2012. A1 is operating its network infrastructure by 100% renewable energies, the network is CO2-neutral.
In addition, A1 generates its own electricity from photovoltaic systems, for instance at the Arsenal technology center and at Aflenz teleport; furthermore, A1 continues to turn telephone booths into power charging stations.
WWF Earth Hour ranks as the world´s largest activity for climate protection, celebrating its 10th anniversary. Last year, 10,400 famous landmarks, monuments and buildings in more than 7,000 cities and communities across 172 countries were darkened.
