Amsterdam/Vienna, November 20, 2013 - The prestigious Global Carrier Awards were presented in Amsterdam last night. The Telekom Austria Group Wholesale was awarded a prize in the category “Campaign of the Year“. This solution was also nominated for an extra award in the category ”Best Service Innovation”. The company’s ‘SIM Box Detection Service’ also won the "Wholesale Service Innovation" award at the Global Telecoms Business Awards in June 2013.
The 9th Annual Global Carrier Awards celebrate excellence in the global wholesale industry. Prizes are awarded in 23 different categories within the framework of the Capacity Europe Conference. This annual event, which has taken place for 13 years, brings together over 1000 experts from the global wholesale marketplace and is considered the most important industry get-together for key decision-makers across Europe.
"We are thrilled to have received another award for our SIM Box Detection Service. We developed an innovative communications campaign for our innovative service, focusing on three main aspects, that a complex product is explained in a simple manner, that we appeal to our target groups emotionally and attract their attention using unusual metaphorical language in comic style," said Stefan Amon, Head of Wholesale, who formally accepted the award at last night’s event in Amsterdam. This year, Telekom Austria Group’s Wholesale department was also included in the shortlist of the Global Carrier Awards as “Best Pan European Carrier”.
In its statement, the jury praised the campaign as follows: “Newcomer to the Capacity awards shortlist, Telekom Austria has focused heavily on fraud protection this year. Its SIM Box Detection Service, launched in January, is designed to offer wholesale customers increased protection of their voice revenues against fraud. To market this service and raise awareness of wholesale fraud, Telekom Austria adopted a cartooned “invisible” thief. The success of the campaign and the service has already made an impact on fraud in the market.”
Solution for Fraud Scenarios The ‘SIM Box Detection Service’ by Telekom Austria Group has been globally available since February 2013. This service encompasses customized testing, detecting and reporting functionalities. Hands-on experience and customer feedbacks could be gathered and shared among all 8 subsidiaries of the Group via numerous workshops, ultimately flowing back into the service.
The award-winning marketing concept was deliberately developed in an unconventional way. The complexity of this solution was explained with a metaphor: the core element of the campaign is a comic evolving around an invisible thief, who is unmasked by the TAG forensic team.
