  • Certificate makes quick provision of standardized Ethernet services possible
  • Both software and hardware are certified according to the CE 2.0 standard
  • The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) membership will allow the company to actively participate in the further development of the standards

The Telekom Austria Group today announced that its Wholesale business unit has achieved the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certification and is therefore the first carrier in Central and Eastern Europe to comply with the new Carrier Ethernet 2.0 standards. Two services of the three service classes E-Line, E-LAN and E-Access were subject to thorough scrutiny.

"We are delighted that our Ethernet product portfolio was successfully certified in compliance with the MEF specifications. This marks an important milestone for us as we will now be in a better position to meet increasing customer demands for standardized services," explained Stefan Amon, Head of Wholesale at the Telekom Austria Group.

In order to achieve CE 2.0 conformity, the services had to undergo a total of 680 tests, which were conducted in the official Iometrix, test laboratory as well as in field.

Diese wurden sowohl im offiziellen MEF-Labor Iometrix, als auch im Feld durchgeführt. The certification was preceded by an introductory stage of four months.

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) is a global industry alliance comprising more than 220 members including telecommunications service providers, cable operators, network equipment/application manufacturers, chip developers and testing organizations. The MEF's main task is to support the worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet networks and services. The MEF develops technical specifications and implementation agreements to promote interoperability and deployment of Carrier Ethernet worldwide.

The MEF Membership Allows Active Participation in the Standardization Process

The certified products are available at the 42 PoPs (Points of Presence) of the Telekom Austria Group across 20 different countries. This enables the interconnection and compatibility between the different network operators so that services can be made quickly and easily available and managed in real time. In addition, this certification also guarantees greater scalability of network services.

Besides, Telekom Austria Group Wholesale cooperates with other MEF CE 2.0 certified hardware manufacturers, guaranteeing a homogeneous ecosystem with uniform service provision for the end-customers.

Last but not least, the MEF membership allows for the company's active participation in the further development of the standards as well as for the exchange of best practices and innovations among its members.
