Vienna, July 11, 2013 - Vip Operator, the Macedonian subsidiary of the Telekom Austria Group, yesterday acquired one of three LTE frequency blocks within the framework of a public frequency auction carried out by the Macedonian Agency for Electronic Communications. Total costs for the acquired frequencies amount to EUR 10.3 million. The license will be valid for a period of 20 years. The acquired frequencies within the 800 MHz and 1800 MHz band will allow Vip Operator to provide its customer with 4G/LTE services.
“The provision of 4G/LTE services is an important step for the ongoing further development of our markets. This allows us to offer our customers the latest technologies and meet all multimedia requirements,“ said Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO Telekom Austria Group.
In Austria, the Telekom Austria Group is currently operating the biggest 4G LTE network of the country, which covers all provincial capitals and several major conurbations. To date, A1 LTE network has been made available to more than one third of the population across Austria. The Telekom Austria Group has also acquired LTE frequency packages in Croatia: in October 2012, the Croatian subsidiary Vipnet acquired frequencies within the 800MHz spectrum for a total consideration of HRK 150 million, which corresponds to roughly EUR 20 million.
