The Global Carrier Awards were presented on October 24th 2018. With the newly developed carrier billing platform project, the A1 Telekom Austria Group wholesale team won the renowned award in the "Best OTT Partnership" category.
The Global Carrier Awards are among the most important award ceremonies for wholesale providers worldwide. This year's award ceremony took place with over 400 guests during the "Capacity Europe" conference in London. The A1 Wholesale Team was represented with five nominations this year: 'Best Pan-European Wholesale Carrier', 'Best Marketing Team', 'Best OTT Partnership', 'Best Voice Service Innovation on Mature Markets' and 'Best Data Service Innovation on Mature Markets'.
The rewarded “Best OTT Partnership” project is the newly developed carrier billing platform. It allows fast and easy payment of digital goods. The advantage of the platform is that customers do not need additional means of payment, for example a credit card, to buy digital goods. Instead, A1 simply deducts the amount from the next mobile phone bill. Thus, the Carrier Billing platform serves as an enabler for the ongoing digitalization.
Franz Bader, Head of Wholesale and International Business, A1 Telekom Austria Group describes the potential for the wholesale marketplace in the future: “Our new Carrier Billing Platform simplifies the development of new OTT partnerships and the expansion of existing OTT partnerships. Furthermore, international carriers are able to offer additional products and services to the OTT's, which potentially allows them to create new revenue streams.”
The A1 Telekom Austria Group received the popular award for the third time. The jury honored the company with the "Best European Project" award in 2016 and with the "Campaign of the Year" award in 2013.
