A1 Telekom Austria Group Celebrates New Start-up Ubiq to Make Mobility Fit on Three Continents

  • Successful A1 start-up conquers the American continent
  • Shared Mobility closes gap between supply and demand
  • Street Crowd platform based on AI and Charging As A Service
  • Eloop as a partner in Vienna takes Shared Mobility to a new level

With more than 5,500 vehicles in more than 15 cities on now three continents, Ubiq (formerly Parkbob) is one of the most successful start-ups that began their success journey from Vienna.

Urbanization and the climate crisis are imposing cities with new challenges. In order to protect the environment sustainably and at the same time meet the mobility needs of residents, cities must develop innovative and sustainable mobility concepts. Digitalization is an immense and valuable help in setting up smart city solutions.

"Urban mobility offers many opportunities to reduce the burden on the environment and establish a better standard of living in cities. At Ubiq, we believe that innovative solutions can only be both sustainable and profitable through a data-driven approach. We are confident that with our products and our services we can play a crucial role in shaping the future of mobility," explains Christian Adelsberger, CEO and Founder of Ubiq.

"The foundation of a sustainable city is digitalization. Our goal is to make cities more sustainable, efficient and livable with A1's smart city solutions. With its sustainable and profitable mobility offering, Ubiq is the perfect complement to our services and a showcase example of great collaboration at A1 Start-up Campus," says Mario Mayerthaler, Head of Innovation and A1 Start-up Campus, A1, about the long-term partnership.

Shared Mobility: 7 out of 10 costumers don´t find a vehicle when they need one
Shared mobility is becoming increasingly popular. The change in consumer behavior toward sustainable and convenient solutions is additionally accelerating the penetration of this mobility concept. Nevertheless, 60-80% of the market demand is not met and thus about 7 out of 10 customers do not find a vehicle when they need it. This is largely due to the fact that vehicles are often not available where they are actually needed. For example, when they are parked for longer periods in the periphery, where demand is nowhere near as high as in the center.

It is precisely this gap between supply and demand, that Ubiq aims to close. With the help of data and forecasting models, it is possible to predict how, where and when demand will be. For example, historical data is used for this, but app opening dates, weather, holidays, special events and parking regulations are also taken into account in the forecast models. Ubiq's artificially intelligent platform uses the demand forecasts and, on a vehicle-specific basis, makes recommendations for repositioning vehicles and also recommendations for charging times for electric vehicles.

Knowing where demand is highest offers advantages for customers and operators: on the one hand, vehicles are more readily available for users, and on the other hand, the operators' fleet is better utilized, which saves vehicles and increases sales by around 20%.

For optimizing the potential use of shared mobility vehicles: StreetCrowd
The Ubiq platform provides shared fleet operators with insights into demand in their city and vehicle task recommendations on how to improve fleet availability and utilization. However, for these insights and recommendations to have an impact on revenue, the recommended vehicle tasks must be performed by a service team. This is where StreetCrowd from Ubiq comes in.

The StreetCrowd platform matches recommended vehicle tasks with the Street Crowd platform's CROWD. Who exactly is the CROWD? Anyone and everyone, including the customers of the shared fleet operators. By completing the recommended vehicle tasks, such as moving, charging, and pulling from charging stations, the CROWD contributes to a sustainable ecosystem in their neighborhood while receiving additional income from Ubiq. Because CROWD is decentralized, meaning users can be found anywhere and at any time in a city, the StreetCrowd platform enables shared fleet operators to achieve unrivaled efficiency and scalability.

Tomorrow´s mobility: Revolutionizing Shared Mobility in Vienna with ELOOP
Based at the A1 Start-up Campus in Vienna, Ubiq is already represented with its solutions on three continents in 15 cities, including Berlin, Budapest, Washington, Hamburg, Portland and Munich.

Now Ubiq has also found a partner in its home city of Vienna in the form of ELOOP, which will take shared mobility to a new level. The aim is to reduce the number of private cars in the city, contributing to Vienna's green and sustainable innovations. ELOOP's all-electric and zero-emission vehicles can be rented for a few minutes or up to several days.

And the expansion continues: in the next 12 to 18 months, Ubiq aims to open up 15 new cities in several countries around the world. Ubiq is currently seeking Series A funding to support the company's ambitious plans.
