A1 Telekom Austria Group: A1 Digital to Support European Cloud Infrastructure GAIA-X

As Day 1 Member, A1 Digital offers secure Cloud solutions with Exoscale-Cloud – How the balance between security, speed and innovation works with Cloud solutions

Cloud computing is a key factor in the digital transformation. Data fuels innovation and information is smartly evaluated and transformed into new knowledge, resulting in new products, services and solutions. A prerequisite for this is not only the high quality of available data, but also security in the data infrastructure.

A1 Telekom Austria Group, as the leading telecommunications company in Austria and the CEE region, therefore welcomes the initiative of the EU countries, "GAIA-X", to promote a common European cloud policy. GAIA-X is regarded as a common, European foundation for the future European data spaces. As a Day 1 Member, A1 Telekom Austria Group supports the German-French cloud project GAIA-X with its subsidiary A1 Digital.

Alejandro Plater, COO A1 Telekom Austria Group: "It is of central interest to us to strengthen digital sovereignty in Europe and we must retain the ability to act in a self-determined manner in Europe. As part of the GAIA-X project we support Europe's independence and innovative ability".

A1 Digital is part of GAIA-X and, with Exoscale, the A1 Digital Cloud from Germany, is already driving the European data infrastructure significantly forward.

"Digitalization requires not only courage and persistence, but also the right infrastructure. It is a great honor and a logical consequence for us to participate in the GAIA-X initiative as a Day 1 Member," says Elisabetta Castiglioni, CEO A1 Digital. "Cloud solutions are increasingly becoming part of the central infrastructure of many companies," she continues. "With Exoscale, we already offer GDPR-compliant, secure and high-performance cloud solutions from Europe: Data sovereignty is thus already in the hands of the entrepreneurs. With servers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, we can guarantee that customer data will always remain in the country”.

Strict data protection: European cloud secure from unwanted access
In the course of the digital transformation, the importance of data for business success is growing exponentially. Strict data protection is key. European cloud solutions that are not subject to the US CLOUD Act (Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data) are therefore urgently needed. Thanks to stricter data protection regulations in the EU (GDPR), data centers of European cloud providers offer an important advantage over US operators. In addition, American cloud providers are subject to the US CLOUD Act and must release data when ordered by US courts. No matter where the servers of these companies are located - whether in Boston or Berlin.
