A1 Telekom Austria and Sunrise will establish the fastest Dark Fiber route from Vienna to Zürich in July 2025

A1 Austria (AT) and Sunrise Communications AG (CH) have joined forces to build the shortest and fastest dark fiber route between Vienna and Zürich. This brand new fiber infrastructure ensures the lowest possible latency for data transfer between these key European hubs. Telcos, fixed network operators, OTT services, broadcasters and global enterprises will benefit from robust, future-proof connectivity to support critical applications, including cloud services, media broadcasting and emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning.

“The partnership between A1 Austria and Sunrise, Switzerland's leading challenger in the Swiss telecommunications market, combines the expertise of two leading network providers to create a seamless, high-performance dark fiber route. By leveraging their combined capabilities, the project offers customers not only superior network quality, but also streamlined operations with a single point of contact.”, emphasizes Denis Filazafovitch, International Business Director of A1.

“At Sunrise, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of connectivity to empower our customers with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. The partnership with A1 Austria marks a new milestone for cross-border data transfer between Vienna and Zurich, and thus strengthens our commitment to Swiss based companies operating internationally.
