On July 12 2022, the Agency for Electronic Communications granted approval for 5G frequencies for A1 Macedonia, a subsidiary of CEE top player A1 Telekom Austria Group.
The Group announces a further purchase of a spectrum worth 8.15 million Euros for the North Macedonian subsidiary A1 Macedonia. The spectrum covers the 2x10 on 700 MHz, 100 on 3.6 GHz frequency bands with a validity of 15 years, financed by the Group´s current cash flow.
"With hard and intensive preparations in the past period, we have developed internal competencies and enabled a high level of technological readiness for the commercial introduction of 5G. By securing the frequencies, the future becomes a reality and we as a company once again confirm that we are constantly investing in improving and upgrading the fastest network in the country. In A1's rich portfolio, attractive 5G certified devices and 5G tariff models are already available, which allow users to experience the benefits of the new technology," said Jiří Dvorjancansky, CEO Cluster North Macedonia and Croatia.
A1 North Macedonia joins the markets of Austria (launch in 2020), Slovenia, Bulgaria and Croatia (all launch in 2021) and makes the Group gain more ground in the 5G coverage along its markets.
“Only if we continue on our growth path we are able to deliver solid financial results. A prerequisite for this is nationwide 5G coverage in most of our markets, and the award of the 5G spectrum in Northern Macedonia has taken us a step closer to successfully further implementing our Group strategy”, comments Alejandro Plater, COO A1 Telekom Austria Group. “Every day proves that the 5G technology is indispensable to manage modern life be it private or business. We still haven't unleashed the full potential of 5G, but every day we are confronted with enhancements and innovations. I am all the more pleased that our Northern Macedonian customers will also benefit from 5G”.
In Northern Macedonia, A1 is focusing on the more-for-more concept with increased data volumes and strives for expanding its mobile portfolio with 5G-enabled rate plans and convergent offerings.
