A1 Telekom Austria Group: Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) Confirms the Company's Contribution to the Paris Climate Targets

Ecological and social responsibility as an integral part of corporate strategy

For years, the A1 Telekom Austria Group has actively assumed ecological and social responsibility by promoting efficient, resource-saving and therefore more sustainable ways of working and living. Since its IPO in November 2000, the A1 Telekom Austria Group has had its sustainable activities regularly evaluated by rating agencies and has been listed in the most important sustainability indices. The results confirm that the Group is on the right track to take on a navigational role in the field of sustainability in the information and communications technology sector.

The digital infrastructure is the basis for the digital transformation of society and the economy and thus the foundation for many approaches to more efficient and resource-saving ways of living and working. The A1 Telekom Austria Group actively contributes to climate protection with measures to improve its own energy efficiency, the range of products and services that help the customers save energy and other initiatives such as a CO₂-neutral network. The Group also promotes the purchase of electricity from renewable energy sources and the realization of projects in this area with the aim of reducing its ecological footprint and avoiding CO₂ emissions.

For the first time, the ambitious climate targets of A1 Telekom Austria Group were certified this year by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) according to scientific criteria. Thomas Arnoldner, CEO A1 Telekom Austria Group on the encouraging result: "Our goal is to reduce direct and indirect CO₂ emissions within the Group by 50% by 2030 and to be CO₂-neutral from 2030 onwards. SBTi has now confirmed that we are actively contributing to the Paris climate goals with our CO₂ reductions. We see this not only as part of our social responsibility, but also as a long-term value driver that brings economic benefits through lower energy consumption and at the same time reduces environmental pollution and costs".
