During the business talks in the context of the European Forum Alpbach 2019, A1 is streaming an 8K video via the A1 5G network for the first time ever in Austria, thus providing an exclusive outlook on the future of entertainment. Together with its technology partners Nokia and Samsung, A1 presents one of the many fields of application of the new 5G mobile technology.

Especially the streaming of high-resolution 8K content will increasingly pose technical challenges for the current mobile networks: both the required transmission speed as well as the transmission volume will increase immensely. A Hollywood blockbuster in 8K quality will reach over 100GB of data volume the network has to deal with. In particular, the rapid development of such bandwidth-intensive applications and the trend towards real-time applications makes the rapid and close expansion of 5G essential.

A1 Telekom Austria Group CEO Thomas Arnoldner describes the possibilities of this new mobile generation: "5G is the basis for all future developments of the mobile Internet and will open up unimagined possibilities for new services. In addition to industrial applications, the Internet of Things and real-time communication for autonomous vehicles or drones, even higher bandwidths and faster response times will open up new applications for private customers, such as virtual reality or cloud gaming. In the future, 5G will also play a key role in supplying rural areas with Gigabit-capable connections. "

A1 CEO Marcus Grausam on the challenges of data transmission: "8K video streaming will be among the applications that require maximum bandwidth. High-definition videos are extremely hungry for data and would bring the existing networks to their limits of performance. At this premiere we show what will be possible in the A1 5Giganet".

5Giganet in Alpbach
In preparation for the 5Giganet premiere in Alpbach, A1 has massively expanded the mobile Internet infrastructure in the Tyrolean community. In addition to upgrading the 4 existing outdoor transmitters with 5G "Massive MiMo" antennas, the Forum Alpbach has also been equipped with an indoor transmitter.
Thus, speeds of currently up to 1.2 Gbit/s are now also possible in the building. All 5 transmitters are connected to the Internet with 10 Gbit/s supply lines and thus ensure 5Giganet quality. Over the next few months, hundreds of communities across Austria will be connected to the 5Giganet.

On Wednesday, August 28, 10:30 AM, A1 CEO Marcus Grausam will exclusively present the first 8K video streaming via 5G at the A1 booth in the lobby of the Congress Center Alpbach. Media representatives are welcome to join this Austrian premiere.

The European Forum Alpbach takes place since 1945 every year in August in the Tyrolean mountain village Alpbach. Speakers and participants from all over the world, from science, business and politics, experts and students come together to discuss current issues of the time and to find interdisciplinary solutions.
